Vision October 2022

Project Gateway is a church-based, non-profit making organisation, serving the city of Pietermaritzburg and the surrounding communities. We aim to equip and empower local people through our Care, Education and Enterprise programmes. Project Gateway was formally established in 1992 when the Old Prison in Pietermaritzburg became available as a base. Our mission statement reflects our vision:

Change people’s lives by

Helping them physically, emotionally and spiritually. We aim to live by

Uplift people and their communities through job and life skills,

Reaching all people without prejudice, showing the

Compassion of Jesus Christ, and

Honouring our Creator.

This is based on 2 scriptures:

Isaiah 58 v 6 & 7:
Is this not the kind of fasting I have chosen, to loose the chains of injustice and untie the chords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?
Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter- when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not turn away from your own flesh and blood?
Matthew 25 v 35
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
And Matthew 25 v 40
Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.

Project Gateway has since the late 1980’s provided love, care, help and assistance to many hundreds of people directly and indirectly to many thousands of people.
