As we enter the beginning of October we are reminded of the day 30 years ago when we “walked” around the Old Pietermaritzburg Prison. The Keys were given too Dominee Dreyer and the main door pushed open. An exciting moment indeed but also one filled with awe and trepidation.
What was the “vision” that we were walking into? What plans did God have for this amazing place of darkness? Such suffering, such anxiety, such hardships that must have occurred here and what were we as the Church team going to do about taking this vision forward.
Lead by the three founding members, Dominee Piet Dreyer, Pastor Dr. Brian Andrews and Mfundisi Baba Ernest Zikhali what was needed and where did we start.
After a walk about – we all gathered in the chapel for a time or thanksgiving and prayer. The road ahead was set, the time had come for the work to begin and for those called by God into this ministry to form the team that would unfold the vision and take it forward. Changing people around us and in various communities from a place of darkness and taking them into a place of light.
Isaiah 58 v 6 – Break the chains of injustice and set oppressed people free. Feed the hungry, provide shelter, clothe the naked and do not turn away from your own flesh and blood.
All the programmes that we have done over the past 30 years and all those we are still involved with fulfill this vision from Isaiah.
We give all the glory to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ – for he has done great things through his Church in this region.
